The right Camaro at just the right time....

Rick and CHQ were "over the top" fortunate to find what we consider just the right 1969 Camaro to contain the 302 all Aluminum Hemi Head Crossram small block, including the right rare stuff we needed to install it, all in time to finish and then show this amazing engine installed and running at the American Camaro Association's 2006 8th Annual Camaro Nationals, and again at the 2007 event held with the GM Nationals at the Carlisle, PA fairgrounds that made this even sweeter. We intend to bring and show this gem again at the 2008 Camaro Nationals. Hope to see you there!

We will have more info on this beautiful Camaro, but for now here is what we do have:

969 Cortez Silver JL-8 Z-28 Hemi Head Crossram 302 Engine Camaro1969 Cortez Silver JL-8 Z-28 X33 with black standard interior, tinted glass, spoilers, console with console gauges and dash tach, rosewood steering wheel, 3:73 posi and th exterior style trim (added). Original factory fiberglass crossram hood (added). Heater Delete (added). Coming from Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum in Sevierville, TN where the car's 2nd and 20 some year owner had lent the car for display the previous 4-5 years or so. Sporting a technically correct, near flawless show quality "older restoration" (Why you gotta love these cars....) with a running ultra rare 302 Iron Block, Aluminum Hemi Head Crossram Package engine installed with all the rare goodies attached. That engine has found a new home.
You gotta love us car people also...we never throw anything away. Rick George also acquired from the car's seller the silver Z's original factory bare engine block, (albeit severely freeze damaged with huge failures on both inner galley wall castings....also the reason the car's original owner sold it in the first place) that we hope will prove feasibly repairable. Remaining drive train is original, all rebuilt with original GM mechanicals, including the matching number M-20 Muncie trans and correctly dated disc brake rear and all correct JL-8 equipment. We also got the Hemi Headers we desperately needed (they are a stainless set patterned directly from an ultra rare original) with an NOS GM factory chambered system attached.
We have a surprising amount of re-restoration work to do as the past few years on display have not been kind to the entire undercarriage. Although everything painted black is just fine, anything else bare or even plated or clear coated metals have surface rusted or the plating finish turned into some seriously ghastly shades of white streaked black and gray. The GM gas tank's heavy galvanized finish is toast. (Wait till we get some pictures posted) The entire suspension, brake and remaining drive train will all need to come apart for cosmetic work. The obviously still brand new factory chambered exhaust (originals systems were factory made from a low grade stainless steel that will oxidize and eventually rust) has several hundred spiny rust "dots" that will have to be dealt with.

At the moment, although our new Camaro's history is well known, other than the reputations of those involved, we currently have no documentation to prove the JL-8 option, but we do have some info to follow up on, and although the original selling dealership has long closed and the first owner we understand has passed on, we'll see what we can sleuth on our own. Failing that, we'll publish all we know, and if we get the kind of assistance received from all the wonderful folks associated with our '69 Trans-Am Medallion SCCA racer, (see story here- '69 Trans-Am Medallion SCCA racer) we may "luck out" again!
